Shockwave Therapy

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy (also called Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy – ESWT) is a

non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing in

injured muscles and soft tissues.

These sound waves are applied directly to the painful area using a handheld device.

The therapy works by:

  • Increasing blood flow to the injured tissue
  • Stimulating the body’s natural healing response
  • Breaking up tight muscle bands and scar tissue
  • Reducing pain and inflammation

How Shockwave Therapy Helps Heal Muscle

Shockwave Therapy promotes healing by:

  • Increasing circulation and oxygen delivery
  • Activating stem cells and growth factors
  • Reducing muscle guarding and chronic tension
  • Improving tissue flexibility and mobility

This allows muscles to repair more effectively and reduces the chance of recurring pain.

Conditions Shockwave Therapy Can Help

  • Muscle strains and tears
  • Chronic muscle tightness or trigger points
  • Tendinopathies (Achilles, patellar, rotator cuff)
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Tennis or golfer’s elbow
  • Hip, calf, hamstring, and shoulder pain
  • Pain that has not responded well to rest, therapy, or injections

Benefits of Shockwave Therapy

  • Non-surgical and non-invasive
  • No injections or anesthesia required
  • Minimal downtime – return to normal activity quickly
  • Fast treatment sessions (typically 5–10 minutes)
  • Clinically proven to reduce pain and improve function

Many patients notice improvement after just a few sessions.

Is Shockwave Therapy Right For You?

You may be a good candidate if you:

  • Have muscle pain lasting longer than 4–6 weeks
  • Have tried physical therapy, stretching, or medications with limited success
  • Want to avoid surgery or injections
  • Are looking for a faster recovery option

A consultation with our provider will determine if Shockwave Therapy is appropriate for

your condition.

What To Expect During Treatment

  • The provider will apply gel to the treatment area
  • A handheld device delivers targeted sound waves
  • You may feel mild to moderate discomfort during treatment, which is temporary
  • Sessions usually last 5–10 minutes
  • Most treatment plans involve 3–6 sessions, depending on the condition
